Our highlights of 2019

29 December 2019

We're rounding up our favourite moments of 2019, from our award-winning Main Avenue garden at Chelsea Flower Show to team tree planting for National Tree Week. With the launch of two brand-new lighting ranges and the usual helping of steam bending, we look back on this year's highlights.

Let’s start where 2019 began – with our New Year’s resolutions! As 2019 stretched out before us, we spoke to founder Tom Raffield about some of the commitments we wanted to make for the brand-new year. These included becoming a plastic free workforce and continuing to support the biophilic interior design movement.

The first few months of 2019 also saw us step into the shoes of our lighting team, launch two brand new sheepskin rugs and some of the pieces from our steam bent lighting collection feature in the RIBA House of the Year.

April, May, June

The first glimpse of Springtime sun and warmth saw us prepare for one of our favourite moments of the year: our appearance at RHS Chelsea Flower Show. We returned to Main Avenue this year with our Force of Nature Garden Stand, aiming to promote a synergy between nature and human wellbeing. Our bespoke design went down a storm winning a 5 star trade stand award.

Our Tressa Planter, part of our outdoor Tressa Garden Range, which launched in May, was also a finalist for the RHS Garden Product of the Year judged by Dragon Den's Deborah Meaden.

Furthermore, some of our steam bent lighting pieces (including our Skipper and Urchin Pendants) once again featured in Raymond Blanc’s Jardin Blanc restaurant at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2019. We also introduced a brand new range of colours for our upholstered furniture pieces - Candy Pink, Sea Grass and Hallingdal, joined our bestselling, Earth Silver.

Some busy summer months saw us add a variety of new products – the Skipper Pendant Small, the Arame Pendant Small as well as some returning favourites - the Archer Table LightLog Loop. and Arbor Sofa.

Casting light up and out from its intricate wooden silhouette, the Skipper Pendant Small produces bright light and bold, contrasting shadows. A bestseller for good reason.

We also successfully launched our greatly anticipated Comber Range, a whole lighting range inspired by world-famous Cornish waves and the motion of the Atlantic tide.

Inspired by the power and grace of the Atlantic Ocean, the Comber Lighting Range features wooden pendant and wall light designs that bring the motion of Cornish tides into your space.

We made an appearance at the amazing Port Eliot Festival in North Cornwall with a sea of our iconic Skipper Pendant Lights and we also designed and handcrafted a bespoke curved bench for the Smart Meter Garden at RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival.

October, November, December

Autumn kicked off with the launch of yet another new lighting range. The Cluster Range combined some Tom Raffield classics with a bold new aesthetic, as we suspended multiple lights from a top plate to create dynamic textures of light.

This National Tree Week the Tom Raffield team became tree champions and helped ensure a greener future.

We also launched our #sustainabilityseries, focusing on exciting ideas from the sustainable design world, and celebrated National Tree Week by taking the Tom Raffield team to volunteer at a tree planting day!
