Leven Lighting Range

9 April 2021

Tom Raffield's latest covetable lighting range 'Leven' takes inspiration from the smooth, sea-eroded cliff faces that distinguish the north coast of Cornwall and promises to bring an Art Deco, modernist twist to classic lighting shapes. Available from 30th April 2021.

Experts in designing and handcrafting sustainable, artisan wooden lighting, Tom Raffield expand their iconic range with the Leven Lighting Collection, a versatile offering of six brand new eye-catching designs, launching 30th April 2021.

Synonymous with nature, each design in Tom Raffield's handcrafted product range is hand-shaped using sustainable wood into sculptural pieces of art using a pioneering and ecological form of steam bending.

Inspired by the striking formations of smooth sea-eroded cliff faces and ridged headlands that distinguish the north coast of Cornwall, the Leven Lighting Range features two drum pendants, two flush ceiling lights (a highly-anticipated addition to the brand's recently launched Flush Lighting Range)plus a wall and tripod floor light. Each new Leven luminaire, named after the Cornish word for 'level', celebrates paired-back structural beauty with its tiered, timeless drum shape.

Tom has brought simple yet refined silhouettes to the collection with the new Leven Lighting Range, a striking but subtle affair that hints at both Scandinavian and Art Deco aesthetics. Artfully marrying contrasting materials of hand curved oak or walnut wood and sleek brass, this modern tiered drum design has all the hallmarks of a future classic.

Handcrafted using brass rivets and an innovative structural ply-wood internal frame, Leven, like Raffield's other designs, uses minimal glue and chemicals. Leven is the latest launch in the Tom Raffield range to boast a lifetime guarantee - a unique 'dry construction' process ensures each light can be easily repaired to ensure it lasts for generations to come and becomes an heirloom of the future.

THE NEW COLLECTION INCLUDES:

Leven Drum Pendant Large

The Leven Drum Pendant Large is handcrafted using four tiers of curving oak or walnut timber that climb a central plywood frame summit. Use to illuminate hallways, living spaces and bedrooms alike, the Leven’s timeless drum aesthetic creates versatile downlighting suited to a myriad of interiors.

Leven Drum Pendant

A small space alternative of our Leven Drum Pendant Large. Secured at the seams with five brass accented rivets, each taut layer of the Leven Drum Pendant showcases sustainably sourced wood and builds a balanced silhouette of careful craftsmanship.

Leven Wall Light

Showcasing structural beauty, the Leven Wall Light creates pools of light from it's Art Deco inspired tiered aesthetic. Sustainably sourced oak or walnut loop in layers to compliment, emphasise or elevate the space it claims. Best situated in pairs.

Leven Drum Floor Light

Arched in tension, each tiered timber level that makes up the Leven Floor Light's drum shape is held securely at the seams by five brass accented rivets to produce a glowing silhouette of ambient illumination. Comes with assembled tripod legs in matching sustainably sourced oak or walnut.

Leven Large Flush Ceiling Light

Suited to lower ceiling heights and smaller interiors, this compact variation of the Leven Pendant Large offers the same modern aesthetic and appeal as its full-sized counterpart, without taking up too much space.

Leven Flush Ceiling Light

A supple slice of smooth, sustainably sourced oak or walnut wood arches around an intricate laser cut birch ply frame to create a small-space lighting design worthy of illumination. Glow beyond. Elevate your interior.

Tom’s fascination with the ecological technique allows him to create intricate curves and twists, mimicking organic shapes and celebrating the very thing that inspires him - nature.

Tom Raffield is one of a new generation of designers and makers, using his craft in innovative and contemporary ways. Leading the charge in sustainable design, he is driven to forge a path to excellence and cause as little environmental impact as possible along the way.

His passion and skill are now shared with his talented team of craftspeople, together they create objects that symbolise nature, tell a story and will last a lifetime, all whilst protecting the natural world.

“Each piece we create has been on an experimental journey - individual, organic and carefully considered. We source everything from sustainable woodlands, which, coupled with the low energy steam bending process, is a very ecological practice with little wastage,” explains Tom Raffield, founder.

Handcrafted in their BREEAM Excellent studios in Cornwall, England, the range of contemporary lighting, furniture and accessories Tom Raffield creates is based on beauty, integrity and a desire to create unique, high specification objects that will be cherished by their owners for years to come.
