The Language of Lamps

4 December 2025

At Tom Raffield, we have always believed that light is much more than simply illumination. It is a key element that can transform the atmosphere of a room with the flick of a switch. Lighting has its own language, subtly shaping how you feel, move, and connect with the spaces you call home. A lamp can inspire creativity, encourage you to pause, or bring design confidence to a cosy corner.

There are also those familiar moments when you prefer not to use the overhead light, especially as evening falls, and you naturally gravitate towards the softer, more thoughtful glow of a lamp. This simple change can alter the mood of a room, adding warmth and a sense of ease.

With this in mind, we’ve come together to share a Tom Raffield lamp that resonates with us the most. From hand-shaped timber designs to clean, modern silhouettes, these are the lamps we’re proud to call our favourites, and ones we hope will inspire you in your own spaces.

Tom Raffield Artus Table Light

Artus Table Light

"With an exposed filament bulb, the shadows of the Artus Table Light are amazing, and the dowels shield any glare.

We have two, one on either side of our living room, and often, they are the only lights we have on. We have small side tables, and they are just the right size, too. The dimmable bulbs are linked to our smart home system, so we often set them to 50% brightness for what our son calls movie night!"

Tom Raffield Skipper Portable Table Light

"It’s a cute mini version of the Skipper, which I absolutely love, and because it’s portable, it can literally go anywhere! I’d place it on a side table in our living room for a cosy touch, or as a centrepiece on the dining table to show off to friends."

"What makes this design so special to me is how its birch pillars create beautiful patterns of light and shadow, giving it personality and charm without ever feeling overpowering.

I’d place it on the hallway console so it’s the first thing you notice when you walk in, instantly making the entryway feel inviting and full of character.

This light warms the space and adds just the right touch of drama. Its versatility makes it a timeless staple piece, one that can evolve seamlessly with my style."

Tom Raffield Gwenen Floor Light

Gwenen Floor Light

"My favourite floor light has to be the Gwenen Floor Light in Walnut. I love the intricate detail of the overlapping loops. If I had one in my home, I’d place it beside the sofa in my living room, creating the perfect corner to unwind and relax in."

"Daring and bold, I love how this floor light looks beautiful on or off, much like many of our designs. It’s tall and elegant, which doesn’t take up much space, so I’m hoping to put this next to our rocking chair to create a cosy reading corner.

The frosted larger bulb is also really striking, but doesn’t create any glare whilst you’re snuggled up next to it."

Cove Mooring Table Light

"I love the simplicity of the Cove Mooring Table Light. Its clean lines feel calm and understated, but the pop of colour (green is my current favourite) adds just the right amount of personality. The exposed bulb makes it a great option for a desk, and I’m planning to add it to my work-from-home space to brighten my setup."
