Less is More: How to Embrace Simplicity in the Home

20 February 2026

In a world that’s often filled with overwhelm, creating a safe retreat at home is increasingly important.

We’re regularly bombarded with decisions around colour, texture, furniture, patterns, lighting and storage when it comes to designing our homes, but sometimes, it’s important to remember that less is more.

Here at Tom Raffield, we understand the importance of giving a statement piece the room to breathe to really have an impact. Think, curation - not clutter.

Make a Statement

When we enter a room, our eyes are naturally drawn to a stand-out feature, whether that’s an oversized fireplace, a vibrant sofa or a beautiful piece of furniture.

Choosing one element to help make a bold statement will help elevate a room without overwhelming it with different design decisions.

When it comes to lighting, a showstopping chandelier or beautiful pendant will garner attention immediately - and that’s before the lights are switched on to create patterns of light and shadow throughout the space.

In bigger spaces such as hallway or a living space with high ceiling, let our Flock Chandelier, Noctis Loer Chandelier or Bue Waterfall Chandelier do all of the talking. Statement pieces in their own right, each of these hand-crafted designs go on to cast stunning shadows across the area.

Pair with minimal interiors and neutral-coloured surroundings for the ultimate statement.

The Art of Simplicity

There is beauty in simplicity, and it’s a feeling we often crave after spending all hours being - physically or digitally - connected to the world around us.

Having a space at home to switch off and relax in is a privilege; but it may not always be practical. You may have a busy family life, or you might work from home in the same space you then eat your evening meal in.

Instead, focus on designing a space with beautiful, considered touches. A cashmere throw placed across an armchair, or a bookshelf arranged by colour can have a wonderfully calming effect on our senses, helping you to curate small moments of simplicity throughout your home.

Classically designed wall lights can add a functional design element to the area without overpowering the space, while also keeping the floor clear of stands and wires.

Our Bue Stem Wall Light adds a glimmer of sophisticated elegance, casting a downward light to its immediate surroundings, while the Noctis Hanter Wall Light is pared back even more with its exposed bulb placed upon an arching curve of steam bent, black ebonised oak.
