Five Ways to Style Mirrors

8 April 2020

Mirror, mirror on the wall, which steam bent mirror is your favourite of them all?
Lusow Mirror or Tor Twist Shelf

We believe that any interior can be greatly enhanced by introducing a well-chosen mirror. Mirrors are an excellent tool for amplifying natural light in a space which would be overwhelmed by the inclusion of more light fixtures. They are also very practical, providing an anchoring point above your vanity table to get ready each morning, or a welcoming pool of light when cleverly positioned in a hallway.

So, to celebrate the launch of our new home accessories collection we’ve put together five tips on how to style mirrors in your home…

The Lusow Mirror can be customised with a tan, brown or black leather hanging strap to complement your space.

Display our Lusow Mirror suspended from the sculptural Tor Twist Shelf to create a unique focal point in your hallway.

1. Make an entrance

Maximise the natural light and feeling of spaciousness by positioning a mirror in your hallway - often one of the most used but overlooked rooms of the home. A minimal mirror design will make your entrance way feel much more welcoming and provide a handy place to pause before gathering your keys or coat before heading out.

To avoid your mirror looking like it's floating in your space, anchor it by suspending it from our Tor Twist Shelf, or hang it above a table (such as our Crib Console). For the ultimate luxury, choose to suspend a mirror over our Upholstered Crib Bench and create a comfortable place to take your shoes off after a busy day or a long run.

Harlyn Mirror
Effortless and elegant, the Harlyn Mirror's frame and hanging loop are simultaneously handcrafted from sustainably sourced oak to create a minimalist design worthy of reflection.

2. Create the illusion of space

Positioned carefully, mirrors can enhance your room and make it feel much larger than it actually is. The reflective glass surfaces catch the light and bounce it around the room creating an airy, spacious feel.

Why not try displaying our sculptural Harlyn Mirror opposite a window to reflect the light back into the room and discover how it brings your space to life?

3. Practical Storage

With space at a premium, filling your home with multi-functional designs can make a big difference to your interior. Our Housel Shelf with Mirror is a brilliant addition to any small living space.

Offering a well-designed and thoughtful aesthetic that doubles up as a versatile place to store small household items, our Housel Shelf with Mirror is guaranteed to add interest to any petite bathroom or hallway.

Harlyn Mirror
The Harlyn Mirror Large is our biggest mirror, offering ample surface area to bounce light around a space.

4. Brighten Things Up

If you’re struggling to bring light into a north-facing room, introducing a large mirror could be the answer. A greater surface area will capture the limited sunlight and refract it around the space, making it feel much lighter and brighter. Layering soft, warm light by combining table and floor lights will also make things feel less gloomy too.

Our Harlyn Mirror Large is an effortlessly elegant addition to a home and will give the illusion of brightness. With a curved hanging loop that twists to resemble a leather strap, this over-sized mirror will create ambience and light in any north-facing room. For maximum impact, position the Harlyn opposite a window to reflect the light back into the room.

Lusow Mirror Cluster
Meaning ‘ash’ in Cornish, the Lusow Mirror is true to its roots and offers a simple aesthetic to suit a variety of spaces.

5. Maximise Impact

Opting for a beautifully handcrafted mirror is an easy way to introduce art into your home. Our new Lusow Mirror has been carefully designed to offer a contemporary, sculptural element to your space. An elegant steam bent curve draws together to create a distinctive, teardrop-shaped mirror with a simple aesthetic to suit a variety of spaces.

Why not try displaying the Lusow Mirror in a cluster formation for a contemporary look?

Top tips on how to care for your Tom Raffield mirror...

Mirrors are prone to gathering small flecks of dust and smudged fingerprints. Here are our top tips for keeping your Tom Raffield mirror sparkling clean using simple household items:

Stubborn marks can be removed using a cotton pad soaked in rubbing alcohol. Buff them away in circular motions before polishing with a glass cleaner and microfibre cloth, wiping gently from top to bottom.

Care for the wooden frame by displaying it away from radiators and windows which may cause the wood to warp a little overtime. Clean the wood by wiping the surface with a damp cloth before removing any moisture with a dry cloth.

See our Care Guides for more information on caring for your Tom Raffield design.
