The Design Trends Shaping 2026

30 January 2026

At Tom Raffield, the year ahead is one where thoughtful design takes the lead, and where materials, craftsmanship, and longevity are valued more than ever.

Rather than chasing fast-moving trends, interiors are becoming more considered, with a strong emphasis on quality. These are the key themes we at Tom Raffield believe will shape design in 2026. Keep reading to find out more…

Material Matters

Natural timber, raw metals and tactile finishes are increasingly celebrated for their distinctive character, with grain, texture and subtle imperfections embraced as part of the design.

In 2026, materials will be a key focus, with a growing desire to understand how materials affect how we feel in our homes. People are valuing skilled craftsmanship and purposeful design, where every detail has meaning.

Craftmanship

In a world that feels increasingly fast-paced, there is a renewed sense of appreciation for hands-on processes and human skill. Techniques such as steam bending and traditional joinery not only take time and skill, but they also tell a story through the way they were made - creating pieces that feel emotive, characterful and truly unique to their setting. All of our designs are handcrafted in our workshop in Cornwall by our own team of makers.

Organic Forms

Design continues to soften as we move away from sharp lines and rigid shapes, embracing curves and organic silhouettes. These gentler details bring a sense of calm and nature into the home, helping to create balance and connection in the spaces we live in. Biophilic design continues to gain momentum and we couldn’t be more thrilled to see this important methodology that nurtures the relationship between people and nature, be in the spotlight and discuss the important mental, physical and environmental benefits it brings.

Sustainability as Standard

By 2026, sustainability is no longer a nicety - it’s an expectation. There is a growing demand for design that not only stands the test of time, but is crafted using responsibly sourced materials and considered sustainable processes. As people become increasingly conscious of the impact of fast interiors, there is a clear shift towards investing in pieces designed to be cherished and passed down through generations.

Timeless Design

Homes are becoming less trend-led and more reflective of the people who live in them. There is a clear shift towards investing in fewer, higher-quality pieces that evolve naturally over time. We handcraft heirlooms of the future and are incredibly proud of our craftsmanship and commitment to making superior quality, artisan pieces that are loved and last a lifetime. Every second spent perfecting each design is reflected in the longevity and enduring nature of our pieces.
