Callum's Cornish Summer Moodboard
We asked our Head of Creative, Callum, to create a moodboard inspired by his home county of Cornwall, bringing together his favourite Tom Raffield designs, alongside the landscapes, interiors and natural textures that shape his everyday inspiration. Here's a closer look at the story behind it, in his own words.
What is it about Cornwall that inspires you the most, both in your work and in everyday life?
Cornwall inspires me through its pace and its connection to nature. There's a clarity to the light and landscape that feels grounding, whether it's the openness of the coast or the stillness of woodland paths. In my work, that translates into a focus on simplicity, natural materials, and forms that feel organic rather than overly engineered. In everyday life, it's the slower rhythm and the way small details like weathered textures or shifting light become more noticeable and meaningful.
Which Tom Raffield light have you paired with your moodboard, and why do you think it's the perfect match?
The light I've paired with this moodboard is the Skipper Pendant. It feels like a natural extension of everything in the palette, its flowing, curved oak form echoes coastal movement while still feeling warm and sculptural. It bridges the gap between the coastal and the more grounded, moody elements of the board.
The way it diffuses light also complements the soft, natural lighting I was aiming for, creating a calm, ambient atmosphere rather than something overly bright or clinical.
Where's your favourite place in Cornwall to switch off and find inspiration?
A favourite place to switch off and find inspiration would be Marazion Beach. There's something incredibly calming about the wide, open shoreline and the ever-changing views across to St Michael's Mount. The light there feels soft and expansive, and the rhythm of the tide creates a natural sense of pause. It's a place where you can slow down, take everything in, and let ideas form naturally without distraction whilst searching for sea glass with my little boy.
What do you think gives Cornish homes their unique character, and how do you think Tom Raffield's designs help bring that feeling to life?
What gives Cornish homes their unique character is that blend of simplicity, material honesty, and connection to their surroundings. They often feel unforced - natural materials, soft palettes, and layouts that prioritise light and views. There's a quietness to them, but also a strong sense of place. Tom Raffield's designs fit into that beautifully because they celebrate craftsmanship and organic form.
The steam-bent wood feels alive and tactile, and the shapes often echo natural movement, whether that's waves, wind, or growth. They don't just sit within a space; they enhance the atmosphere, reinforcing that sense of calm, warmth, and connection to nature that defines Cornish living.
