Classic Blue: Celebrating Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2020
We’re celebrating Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2020; the ultra-cool and calming Classic Blue.
Pantone recently announced Classic Blue as their 2020 Colour of the Year; describing the colour as a “reassuring presence instilling calm, confidence and connection”.
Tranquil and timeless, Classic Blue reminds us of the deep blue Cornish oceans that surround our workshop. We’ve handpicked some of our favourite pieces from our range that perfectly compliment this hue, along with our tips on how to incorporate blues into your interior.
Choose the right shade of blue
Sky, baby, teal or aqua? Choosing the right shade for your intended space is key as every blue will yield different results and create a different feel in your home.
If you're more of a minimal interior design trend admirer then opting for a warm-toned muted blue will brighten your space and suggest a coastal atmosphere without creating a clinical feel.
Decorating your space using rich, deep blues can result in a luxurious and sophisticated aesthetic. Bold floor-to-ceiling colour blocking is a sure fire way to create a statement and is also suited to an array of properties.
Accessorise
If you don’t want to commit to painting an entire room try accenting your space with blue furnishings, such as our Beeble Pouffe, as a subtle nod to the Classic Blue trend.
Known for it's calming qualities and naturally inspired hues, blue pairs well with muted, neutral tones for a quick 'pick me up', but works equally well with bolder statement colours such as pink, purple and even orange for a modern edge. Try incorporating the biophilic design trend into your space with pops of greenery.
Create Contrast
Here at Tom Raffield we're big fans of contrasts. Mixing materials to create an aesthetic that's unique allows your creativity to flow and ensures that your interior is truly your own. When committing to using trend colours in your home it's important to make them work with your space, not take over.
It's worth noting that lighter coloured woods and other natural materials contrast beautifully with bold, darker colours and can really help to soften a space and make it feel more homely. Opting for furniture and lighting pieces made from ash or oak wood help to achieve a well considered, stylish space that's sure to be remembered.
