A Day in the Life: Tom Raffield

27 May 2026

Away from the workshop, Tom loves nothing more than exploring everything Cornwall has to offer, and there's plenty of it. From wild moorland hikes to early morning bodyboarding with the family, Cornwall never stops surprising him. Here, he shares some of his favourite pastimes and the places he loves most.

A Coffee Stop at the Cornish Bakery

Every good day starts with a great coffee and for me, that means The Cornish Bakery. Pop in and grab yourself something delicious from the counter. A pastry is non-negotiable in my opinion and allows you to sit and enjoy a few moments of calm ahead of a busy day. You’ll find them dotted around the county and keep your eyes peeled for some familiar lighting while you're there…

Catching Waves at Perranporth

If you’re after fun and a little rejuvenation, there’s no better way to spend a day in Cornwall than throwing yourself into the Atlantic at Perranporth. Bodyboarding with the family is one of my favourite things: it's pure joy but don’t be fooled, it’s quite the workout too!

Step into the wild at Bodmin Moor

Windswept, rugged and wonderfully remote, Bodmin Moor offers an alternative to Cornwall’s coastal paths. We love heading up to the tors for a hike and a picnic. It’s the perfect escape when you want to experience a different landscape beneath your feet, and the panoramic views with sweeping, dramatic rock formations are quite something.

Perranporth Beach, Cornwall

The Gyllyngvase to Maenporth Walk

This stretch of the South West Coast Path is a firm family favourite. We walk from Gyllyngvase beach to Maenporth, usually hopping in for a dip along the way at Swanpool Beach. Sometimes we all share paddleboards and weave our way around the rocky outcrops and clifftops. The views are incredible. And yes, we once had to rescue a small deer from a cave as the tide came in. Cornwall keeps you on your toes!

Evenings at Home

As the evenings draw out, there's nothing I love more than cooking for friends and family and taking it all outside. Good food, good company and a Cornish sunset, it doesn't get much better than that.
