Update: We’ve moved

7 February 2020

Having recently moved Tom Raffield HQ to a new space by the coast in Falmouth, we've been able to refine our processes, improve efficiency and handcraft our steam bent designs even more sustainably. So, let’s take a tour of our exciting new home.
We've moved

Social and environmental responsibility has always been at the core of Tom Raffield, and sustainably crafting high quality, functional pieces is our number one priority. That’s why, towards the end of last year, we took the leap to move our workshop and office team to a brand new purpose-built space on the edge of Falmouth to allow ample room for our growing business and team to flourish.

Having spent time settling into our exciting new premises, honing our efficiency and steam bending processes, we’re ready to share the next stage in our exciting innovative journey with you...

Integral to maintaining our eco-conscious ethos is seeking to constantly improve our processes, nature-inspired designs, and the culture of our team.

Place

Our workshop at Nanskerris, set in the beautiful woodland valley of Trevarno in South Cornwall, was the perfect place to grow our business to where we are today. Serving our team remarkably well over the years despite it’s challenging rural location and limited working space, Nanskerris will always hold a place in our hearts and continues to be home to Tom and Danie as well as their design space and a source of inspiration for our nature-inspired pieces.

Our decision to move was wholly based on the necessity to grow our business in a sustainable way which would allow us to learn, adapt and stay ahead of the curve. Having now made our new Falmouth workshop and studio home, we’re thrilled to have also made improvements to our processes and efficiency levels which, in turn, has enabled us to handcraft our steam bent designs even more sustainably.

Our new, purpose-built BREEAM excellent-rated facility is powered by renewable energy sourced from solar panels on our workshop roof, and features top of the range extraction systems, workshop machinery and most importantly, offers each of our lighting, furniture and bespoke workshops their own areas to expand and grow. Furthermore, our logistics area has improved two-fold with pallet storage, forklift access and ample space for deliveries and collections.

The Tom Raffield Team
Moving forward, our team will continue to collectively strive to be ahead of the curve and remain at the forefront of pushing a sustainable, positive way of working.

People

As our business continues to go from strength to strength, we think it’s more important than ever to invest in our people. Sharing the same sustainable outlook and nurturing a culture that thrives is important to our team members as it allows us to work more collaboratively and efficiently.

Since our move across the coast to Falmouth, we’ve had the pleasure of saying hello to lots of new faces and expanding our skilled team even further. Providing jobs in a rural part of the UK is something we feel passionate about and we’re working closely with colleges and universities in Cornwall to nurture talent and keep it local. Investing in apprenticeships and internships, we’re building a new generation of skilled designers and craftspeople who share our ethos.
