The Cornish Sustainability Awards
(CSA) aims to encourage, reward and gain recognition for local businesses doing their upmost to improve their own sustainability, and that of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly as a whole.
The trophies themselves are a creative collaboration between Tom Raffield and Leap Design
. Callum Kiss, Designer for Tom Raffield explains the making process:
‘To create the trophies for the awards we shaped and twisted engraved wooden uprights using the low-tech method of steam bending
, a traditional process steeped in history. Combining this traditional process with modern technologies such as laser cutting by Jenny at Cutbybeam
and CNC cutting by Apply Works
, the result is a set of unique awards showcasing how these techniques can come together and create something sustainable
, innovative and beautiful.’
The trophies were presented to the delighted 2017 winners at Newquay’s Headland Hotel on 1st December. The event as attended by an incredible selection of local companies who have sustainable ethos at the forefront of their business. A huge congratulations to the winners, the likes of Surfers Against Sewage, St Austell Brewery, The National Lobster Hatchery and Camel Valley Vineyards to name but a few.
The Tom Raffield team would like to thank the Cornwall Sustainability Awards for a second year running for the honour to be involved in an event that celebrates the positive impacts of sustainability on our environment.
